finding feature leads

                            Finding Feature Leads

“Oh my God—we hit a little girl.” This was the single, shocking cover line of the October 1966 issue of Esquire. Inside was John Sack’s 33,000-word New Journalism masterpiece, M, in which he followed a single company of American infantrymen from Fort Dix, New Jersey, to the war in South Vietnam. With that story—the longest to ever appear in Esquire—Sack single-handedly invented what it meant to be an embedded reporter and reset the bar for what journalism could be: trenchant, moving, and at times funny and even rollicking, yet dead set on revealing in personal terms the most troubling and urgent issues of our time. Esquire executive editor Mark Warren, who was Sack’s last editor at the magazine, joins host David Brancaccio to discuss Sack’s legacy and why he remains the least known but arguably most important New Journalist of his generation.

Direct Address Lead .

NPR has released the final versions of the new clocks for its newsmagazines and set a date of Nov. 17 for their implementation.
The network unveiled proposed clocks in July after more than a year of work that involved staff and representatives from member stations. The clocks are the second-by-second scheduling of what happens when during the newsmagazines, including newscasts, music beds and funding credits. They also affect when stations can insert their own local content.

Miscellaneous Freak Leads
he exuberant and ageless John Sack was the only American journalist to witness combat in every American war from Korea in the early fifties to Afghanistan in 2002. The “embed” arrangement—which attached a journalist to a particular military unit—was virtually invented for Sack. While he was covering the Korean War for Stars & Stripes, his status as a correspondent ended after he stowed away overnight aboard an American landing ship to interview Chinese prisoners of war and was arrested by the American military police when the ship docked in Pusan, South Korea.

4.His skills in trial also extended to other cases. I can recall being in court one day when a visibly rattled Vic Wisner came in. He was actually trying to keep from crying. When I asked him what was wrong with him since I was unaware of the fact that Vic even had tears, he told me he had just seen Craig give one of the most amazing closing arguments on an Intoxication Manslaughter that he had ever seen.

But Francis said, ‘I want to look at the Mafia not as thugs and gangsters but like royalty in Rome.’ And he saw something in me that fit Tessio as one would look at the classics in Rome.”

feature writing: witch albom on writing

Feature Writing : Witch Albom On Writing

1. Mitch Albom was at Brandies University in the spring of 1979 . Sixteen years after his graduation fromBrandies Mitch is feeling frustrated with the life he was chosen to live. After his uncle dies of pancreatic cancer Mitch abandons his failing career as a musician to become a well paid journalist for a Detroit newspaper. Mitch promises his wife Janine that they will have children eventually , though he spends all of his television and recognizes Morrie's voice. Morrie is being featured on the televison program "Nightline " in the first of three interviews with Ted Koppel, whom he quickly befriends.

2.     LEADS

Unless you're writing hard news for a daily newspaper or regularly-updated website , the summary lead just doesn't reel in readers. You need to take a more creative approach. Consider this summary lead.

MIDDLES

Middles are the parts where they tell more about the story and you're hooked to the story and you beginning to like the story.

ENDINGS

the ending of the story captures everything about the story and give more details on the story . It Concludes by linking the last paragraph to the first by rewriting a word or phrase you used at the beginning.

3.

bobby hawthorne introduces us to feature writing (without using the word feature)

                                      Bobby Hawthorne

1.  "He says by running every story idea through an obstacle course that will produce the most interesting and informative coverage." I think him the reporters should do there job thats what they get paid for to collect data and i guess he thought they were not doing his job.

2. "this is a recipe for success if you're trying to peddle journalism like microwave popcorn. That is "hot and ready to go in 90 seconds or less. Tastes like whatever you put on it, and won't fill you up."
"So if your goal is to make certain readers can skim through the paper , search for a few familiar names and faces and be finished with it in five minutes or less, then there's no need to read on."
what he is saying is if your ready to be successful with journalism don't take forever to solve your problems.

Welcome Back J1 Allstars

This picture was actually taken by a space ship , its called the Pillar of Creation. I like it because it looks like a castle and its colorful and creative , i would actually like to be there to see it in person.

Bill Cosby a 80 year old man being assaulted for rape which there just bringing it up when he's lived his life and is in shape to pass away soon and they're trying to lock him up for a crime he may not have committed which i don't know if he did or not just saying it's very old and is trying to lock him up , a old man and is the man i grew up watching i don't think its right i think they should leave it alone of give him another consequence but if he did it he should be responsible for his action but not like that maybe house arrest or something.
This Picture really stuck out to me the baby has ebola and the nurse is at risk of catching it to and she's risking her life for this baby that's not even her's its very touching to me African American baby with ebola in 2015 kids use to think it was a game to get ebola when it was nothing to play with i'm not gonna lie but i use to play around with that now that i'm seeing this in 2016 i see this was not a game pray for this child.
